Today is the official release of the debut album from Nashville’s Styrofoam Winos! Cleft productions first worked with them on a show of @studio_vesnapavlovic @zeitgeistgallery called ‘Mixtape’ in which various Nashville groups covered Serbian and other Slavic language bands from the 80s and 90s. @kylehamlettuno recommended reaching out to @trevtown4u for that and it’s been nothing but awesome collabs since, including the Winos being our wedding band! Suffice it to say, this project has been a labor of love and it shows. They triangulate talent, swapping instruments, vocals, and songwriting duties. Are they Nashville’s Yo La Tengo??? THEY JUST MIGHT BE. But I also hear elements of early Talking Heads and even 70’s folk pop À la Fleetwood Mac. Yes, it runs that gamut and holds it all together as an LP that rewards repeat listens. Catch them performing at Grimey’s tonight at 8 central on their label’s YouTube channel, Sophomore Lounge. In the mean time, stream their record any time from their Bandcamp link and pick up an LP at Grimey’s, recorded and mixed by me, and mastered by @bombshelterstudio!
